Catalan traditions: Calçotada

Catalan traditions: Calçotada

Open doors that invite you to share a good moment around a delicious traditional Catalan meal … calçotada!
.
Calçotada is an annual event that takes place throughout Catalonia celebrating the harvest of Calçots (chives that look like leeks). We roast them to the fire, we wrap them before serving them in terracotta tiles with romesco sauce, red wine and bread. Warning: you can only eat them by peeling the calçots with the bare hands of your burned jacket!
.
This is, by far, one of the best experiences in the region of Catalonia, and we recommend you go to the countryside to live with the locals.

Have you already experienced that local experience somewhere in Catalonia? Would you like to try it? You still have time, the “calçots” or the large onions are in harvest until the end of April and you can find many Calçotada around Barcelona and Catalonia.
.
Who can say no to the roasts? And amazing fact, it’s totally vegan!
